Cancerul de sân apare la femei din ce în ce mai tinere.
Apariția unui nodul trebuie investigată, dar nu înseamnă că este un semn de cancer.
Autoexaminarea regulată a sânilor trebuie să facă parte din rutina oricărei femei. Multe femei cu cancer de sân nu au niciun simptom.

În luna octombrie, peste 1.000 de femei din mediul rural vor beneficia de examinări gratuite menite să depisteze cancerul la sân.

Autoexaminarea lunară a sânilor. Începând încă din adolescență, toate femeile ar trebui sa își examineze lunar sânii, de preferat la o săptamână după apariția ciclului menstrual. Autoexaminarea se face în fața oglinzii. Lucrurile care ar trebui să le trimită pe femei imediat la medic sunt: noduli, denivelări, modificări de formă, culoare sau simetrie, plieri, mameloane întoarse înauntru, secreții.
Controlul la medic. Vizita la medic pentru controlul sânilor trebuie efectuată o dată la trei ani până la vârsta de 40 de ani și o dată pe an după vârsta de 40 de ani.
Dupa vârsta de 40 de ani, femeile ar trebui să efectueze anual o mamografie și să beneficieze de examinarea clinică a sânilor.
