• Vârsta: Majoritatea cazurilor de cancer ovarian sunt diagnosticate în jurul vârstei de 55 de ani, când apare menopauza.
• Istoric familial: Riscul de a face cancer ovarian este mai mare la femeile care au în familie (si din partea tatălui, și din partea mamei) două sau mai multe rude care au avut cancer ovarian, de sân, de colon sau de uter.
• Ereditate: Mutațiile genelor BRCA 1 si 2 cresc riscul apariției acestui tip de cancer.
• Alți factori: Femeile obeze, care nu au avut copii, nu au luat niciodată pilule contraceptive, cărora le-a venit menstruația mai devreme de 12 ani sau care au intrat la menopauză la o vârstă avansată au șanse mai mari de a face cancer ovarian.
